The popular phrase “Blood is thicker than water,” is based on an old German proverb. Many of us can agree with this saying based on personal experience. Indeed, when difficulties arose, an individual could traditionally count on his or her closest kin to come to his or her defense when someone outside the family slighted or threatened to harm him or her. Healthy family relationships can provide a sense of security, belonging, mutual support and unity. Christian families have also long believed that a healthy relationship with God is essential to lasting family relationships in their affirmation of the motto, “A family that prays together, stays together.” Christian families are not immune to difficulties, however, and relationships can sometimes get messy. Unfortunately, we may have witnessed such family conflicts that have become violent, ugly and escalating on full display in Jerry Springer Show fashion!

Have you, or someone you know, ever been the victim of a hurtful family secret? Betrayal of trust in families can be devastating and difficult to heal. Sometimes, it is best to talk about it with someone outside of the family. You are invited to to share your story at our next Lifetree Small Group meeting, or just enjoy the conversation and mutual support of friends. In the episode, “Family Secrets,” meet a woman who accidentally discovered a secret that her mother kept from her until she died. Discover how she was able to work through the pain of not only losing her mother, but of the revelation that her mother had been hiding something important from her for decades. Lifetree Small Group will meet on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. in room #130. It only lasts an hour, and it might change your life! Please invite a friend or family member, too.
