Rejoice!

Cavalier fans, rejoice! LeBron James, the native Ohio son returned with the single mission in mind; to bring an NBA Championship to “The Land.” Mission accomplished! Even if you are not a basketball or NBA fan, you have to admit that a better script could not be written for the storybook ending to the Cleveland Cavalier’s 2015-2016 season. As a huge OSU fan and graduate, I believe this Cavalier’s victory rivals any of the Buckeye’s national football championships, as if that were even possible! Any Ohio sports fan who did not experience joy in this championship, had better check his or her pulse! There was dancing in the streets in Cleveland and celebrations all across Ohio last Sunday. On Monday, the team received a hero’s welcome upon their return to the Cleveland airport, and hundreds of thousands attended a victory parade on Wednesday. It was an emotional victory for the once prodigal son, LeBron, who has now redeemed himself among his fans. I was impressed that Lebron acknowledged that this accomplishment was not solely due to his own efforts, but much credit was given to his teammates, his fans and to God, of whom he referred to as “The Man Upstairs.” I, along with most critics and fans alike, had all but written off the Cavs when they fell to 3-1 in the series. To our astonishment, they defied history to win the final three games and clinch the series! The Cavs won their first ever championship, and brought the first major professional sports championship to Cleveland in 52 years, ending “the curse!” Sportswriters will refer to this season for years to come!

As incredibly exciting as the Cavs' championship was to experience, their accomplishment pales in comparison to a lost person finding salvation. In the Parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus said, I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent,” (Luke 15:7). Can you imagine that? In heaven there are shouts of praise, singing and dancing among the residents of heaven every time a person accepts Jesus as his or her personal Savior! It must be amazing! There are dedicated fans in heaven who are enthusiastically cheering and pulling for us to produce victories here on earth! As teammates, we must play the game with a single mission in mind, serving the Lord and bringing victories to our homeland through the winning of lost souls to Christ. Imagine the hero’s welcome we will experience when we are reunited with our loved ones and with the Lord in our heavenly home one day!
